The Lindamood-Bell® programs — LiPS®, Seeing Stars® and Visualizing and Verbalizing® — offer a unique, extremely effective, research-based method for overcoming difficulties in reading, spelling and comprehension.

LiPS®

For children or adults having trouble “cracking the code” and figuring out unfamiliar words, the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program (LiPS®) is a powerful approach.  Most of these students have a weakness in phonemic awareness and are unable to hear or sequence the individual sounds in words. This skill is essential for successful reading and spelling.  By learning to feel the shape of the sounds in the mouth, a different sensory channel is used to train the brain. Through structured multisensory activities the weak areas are strengthened, the essential elements of the language are learned and the students are able to become independent readers and spellers.

Seeing Stars®

For those individuals having difficulty recognizing familiar words or remembering the spelling of irregular words, Seeing Stars® offers an effective solution. Through structured multi-sensory activities the student’s ability to visualize and image letters and words is developed and the student’s memory of words is enhanced.

Visualizing and Verbalizing®

Some students have great difficulty remembering and comprehending what they have heard or read. It is as if the words go in one ear and out the other. In contrast those with good comprehension have been shown to “make movies in their heads”. The Visualizing and Verbalizing® Program trains the learner to create visual images in response to language. These visual images enable the listener or reader to better hold onto details, identify the main idea, generalize, predict, and make inferences.

Through the use of the LiPS® Program, Seeing Stars® and Visualizing and Verbalizing® the deficit areas are developed, paving the way for independence in just a few months of intensive intervention.
